Industry.Peace.Environment. (Northern MN Anti-Mining Compilation)
Billy Bragg sang the cynical question “mixing pop and politics, they ask me what the use is?” on his classic song “Waiting for the Great Leap Forward,” but like Bragg, I have never subscribed to that skeptical view that politics and art needed to be mutually exclusive. While I can’t say the music on this comp is something I would generally spin, Industry.Peace.Environment. is a cool project from Iron Range artists in Northern Minnesota to let their voices be heard about mining issues that are currently facing the region. Anchored by songs from Charlie Parr, Actual Wolf and Craig Minowa of Cloud Cult, the album brings together artists from the region to raise awareness for these important decisions. Listen to and buy the comp below and find out more about the issue at the Arrowhead Story facebook page.
