Sadly, Reviler doesn’t cover enough contemporary classical and chamber music. Partially because it’s a really niche genre, and partially because the site is run by four busy dudes. With luck this post will introduce you to one of the most exciting chamber outfits on the scene right now, as well as suggest an activity for your otherwise boring Tuesday evening.<\/p>\n

Balmorhea (pronounced “Bal-moor-ray”) is a Texas-based sextet (currently) that takes a vivacious, instrumental approach to human frailty and sentimentality. The usual violin, cello, and double-bass are variously joined by a pair of guitars, a pair of banjos, and\/or drums. The ensemble’s fifth full-length, a live album\u00a0called Live at Sint-Elisabethkerk<\/em>, is due out on September 6th (from the mega-awesome Western Vinyl label).<\/p>\n

But don’t take my word for it. \u00a0Listen to “Clamor” from the out-of-print Candor \/ Clamor 7″ <\/em>below. Balmorhea was first scheduled to play at the Woman’s Club of Minneapolis, but the show has since been moved to the 400 Bar. Scheduled at 6:30 p.m., it’s an early show\u2014so head over right after work. (More information can be found here<\/a>. In typical form, the information on the 400 Bar’s website is not up to date.)<\/p>\n
