Japan’s Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs make their first Minnesota stop ever (Show Monday!)
When you get into a band from another country, you might never be able to see them live. Sometimes, they’ll never make it here or only do limited tours along the coast. Mass of the Fermenting Dregs is a Japanese post-rock and shoegaze band known for its dynamic guitar sound and live performances. Although the band has been in different lineups since 2002, 2023 was the first time it toured the United States. This year, they’ve brought an even longer tour and are visiting Minnesota for the first time.
Led by original member Natsuko Miyamoto and newer members Isao Yoshino and Naoya Ogura, the trio draws from influences from alternative rock, punk, and noise rock. Their music is characterized by intense, swirling guitar riffs, driving basslines, and a mix of melodic and distorted vocals, often creating a balance between raw energy and delicate beauty. Their last album, Awakening:Sleeping, dropped in 2022 and is the third album since their 2015 reunion.
To make things even better, they’ll be joined by Singapore-based shoegaze band Blush, who’s been on my radar for a bit. It’s a lineup you likely won’t see again, so don’t miss this one.
Mass Of The Fermenting Dregs plays the Turf Club with Cam Kahin and Blush on Monday (9/30/24). More info here.
