“Total Black” is a good place to start with Portrayal of Guilt’s new record – patient, heavy, and unwilling to resolve where you expect it to. The Austin trio have spent nearly a decade moving through black metal, screamo, hardcore, and industrial without settling into any of them. …Beginning of the End, out last month on Run for Cover, pulls in trip-hop and nu-metal on top of that and somehow lands harder for it – closer to Godflesh or Deftones than anything they’ve done before. We’ve caught PoG a few times over the years and they always bring the unrelenting intensity.
