For the Fresh Five we pick out five great new(ish) jams that we’re currently obsessing over. All of these songs come from local (Minnesota) bands/artists.

Clover’s Daughter is a local indie rock/folk singer/songwriter that creates dreamy and melancholic pop songs about love and loss. They release their latest album (Out of Character) today (8/19) and will follow up with a local show at the 7th St. Entry on 9/3 (tix/details).

Coworker are a local black metal trio out of Saint Paul who recently released SHAME their latest EP (stream/purchase). They will perform as part of a very solid lineup of local metal groups (including Aestis and Meshes) on 9/8 at Pillar Forum (tix/details). Expect a screamy good time and some great musicianship.

Kiernan is a talented local folk/pop artist along the mold of acts like Big Thief, mixing country and rock influences as well as heart-on-the-sleeve songwriting. They will be performing on 9/10 at the Turf Club with Wisconsin’s Luke Callen (whom has one of the best local-ish releases out this year). Tix/details.

Anna Graves is a local country/pop artist whose debut record America’s Greatest Burnout (feeling that title) releases this weekend (8/21). Graves has a confessional songwriting style and accompanies it with a very slickly-produced country sound. Stream/purchase AGB here. She’ll perform at the Turf Club on 9/24 (tix/details).

Mother Soki was one of the most hyped new local artists last year and for good reason. The ethereal dreampop sound on her 2025 debut Rivet Gun is mature and compelling. Soki will perform a small, intimate show next month at Cloudland theater which will be a great opportunity to hear her latest single “The Rot.” Tix/details.
