Mikal Cronin “Apathy”
I probably would like Mikal Cronin based simply on the fact that he has (and still occasionally does) worked with San Fran garage kingpin Ty Segall, but after diving into his music, I have found that is most definitely speaks for itself. The track below, the clean but powerful garage rock jam “Apathy,” wobbles from the spirited pysch-pop jangle to the noisy freak out at the end, with pure gold in the middle. Like his buddy Ty, he has a knack for writing a song that grips your inner brain with its juicy melody all while covering the track with enough grime to rope in even the most jaded listener. His solo debut, self titled LP drops on Trouble in Mind records on September 20th. Cronin will be joining Segall when he stops at the Cave in Northfield on October 3rd for a can’t miss show this fall.
