Trabajo is a musical partnership of Brooklyners Yuchen Lin & TJ Richards. They take inspiration from traditional Indonesian Gamelan music and remix it into more dance-oriented beats. As a big fan of traditional Gamelan, I wasn’t sure I would like the tunes “chopped and screwed” but I am finding Trabajo’s Gamelan to the Love God a pretty interesting listen, particularly considering that it sounds like they had some really great stuff to work with re: samples. Not only was the Gamelan sound a major influence (obviously) but Lin & Richards have also mentioned the soundtrack for acclaimed manga film Akira was also huge factor as well.
