The great Not Not Fun/100% Silk labels are where I generally look to scratch my outre electronic itch, so it was cool to see their latest batch of releases contains a local favorite making their label debut. We’ve talked a lot about Beat Detectives, who are Chris Hontos (Food Pyramid/Dreamweapon) and vocalist Oakley Tapola, and even been lucky enough to have them play our third anniversary show last year. The duo, via their debut Moon Glyph tape and various other releases have proven adept at creating the kind of sleazy house bangers that make you want to a shower. They are wobbly and frantic but still seem lazer sharp, glistening without sounding phony. As the label puts it, their sophomore tape Music 2 is “regenerative club mutagen for a world with a stick up its ass.” Listen to the woozy bliss of “There is a Place U Go” below and grab the tape from the label HERE.
