Dur-Dur Band “Dooyo” (MPLS residency this week)
Dur-Dur Band deserve at least a cursory glance for their perserverance over the years, but beyond their amazing story, their music was before its time and incredibly visionary. Brought to many people’s attention (including mine) when Awesome Tapes from Africa re-released their electronic/funk/pop/rock gem Volume 5, the group have been getting some long-overdue attention over the last few years. You can hear their infectious sound and driving rhtyms via “Dooyo” below, and it is worth diving into the inter webs to hear their whole back catalog.
The band have been and will continue to be putting on shows all across Minneapolis this week as part of a residency in conjunction with the Cedar Cultural Center. Some shows are at the Cedar, while others are at elementary schools and Augsburg College. More info on their residency, culminating with a full band electric show Friday at the Cedar, can be found HERE.
