Check out the Soulful Grunge of Hello Yello (Show Tomorrow!)
The Oakland band Hello Yello hasn’t been around long (enough to release a single EP so far) but the trio, made up of brothers Dylan and Jaden Wiggins along with Martin Rodrigues, have been already put in a lot more than most bands their age. Their debut EP Love Wins covers a lot of ground, from the Frank Ocean soul of “Feel That Again” to the heavy bass grunge dirge of “Maybe” but feels completely cohesive. Perhaps it’s the Wiggins brothers’ father (D’Wayne Wiggins of Tony! Toni! Toné !) or early teenage work with Kehlani and Zendaya that informs the R&B undertones that still permeate the music but the three piece filters it through their power trio setup. Show up early and catch them tomorrow opening for Clairo before they’re headlining big tours of their own.
