Ten Recommendations For Your Caterwaul 2025 Experience This Weekend

It’s another Memorial Day weekend which means that another 4 days and nights of loud, abrasive and exciting bands are descending on the 331 Club, Mortimers and Zhora Darling for the Caterwaul Music Festival. If you’ve got the stamina for 40 bands or you’re just planning on dropping by for a day or two, we’ve got our annual suggestion list on a few things we’re looking forward to (besides everything). – Adam

Who: Kowloon Walled City
Kowloon Walled City has been producing their crushing riffs for almost a couple decades at this point but rarely tour through our part of the country. An absolute do not miss as they come through for what I think is their first time here.
When: Saturday 5/24 at 8:15PM, 331 Club

Who: powertakeoff
powertakeoff delivered an amazingly crushing set last year’s Caterwaul, great enough that it’s a limited LP out right now. Sludgy, brutal, ugly sounds that are perfect for your afternoon.
When: Monday 5/26 at 4:30PM, 331 Club

Who: Buildings
Local favorite Buildings had been broken up for the last 5 years before playing their first show back a couple weeks ago at Falling Knife. If you love those Jesus Lizard style riffs and don’t know Buildings, where have you been?
When: Sunday 5/25 at 7:15PM, 331 Club

Who: Fashion Week
Combining some shoegazey stretches with some classic Unsane/Helmet style riffing, it’s a great combination.
When: Saturday 5/24 at 3:15PM, 331 Club

Who: Pissed Jeans
Would you believe Pissed Jeans has never played here in their 20+ years of existence? We were lucky to catch them once in Louisville almost 10 years ago, but it’s a bit of an understatement, we’re psyched to have them here.
When: Sunday 5/25 at 8:15PM, 331 Club

Who: Big’n
Legends of the 90s Chicago noise rock scene, Big’n came back with their first album in 28 years last year.
When: Sunday 5/25 at 6:30PM, 331 Club

Who: Tonguecutter
Tonguecutter slice through hardcore and noise rock with jagged precision. Get the pit ready.
When: Sunday 5/25 at 3:30PM, 331 Club

Who: Fotocrime
Ryan Patterson’s (Coliseum) Fotocrime delivers slightly gothy synth gloom combined with post-punk drive.
When: Saturday 5/24 at 7:25PM, 331 Club

Who: Something Is Waiting
A surprise early afternoon favorite from Caterwaul past, Something Is Waiting is aggressive riffing and a great frontman leading the charge.
When: Friday 5/23 at 9:00PM, Mortimer’s

Who: Vincas
Another surprise favorite from 2023, Vincas deliver Gun Club/Birthday Party-esque swampy post-punk.
When: Saturday 5/24 at 4:15PM, 331 Club
