Or, The Whale “Toxic”
36/100
I am probably in the minority here, but I have no time, patience or love for cheeky covers of crappy pop songs. To me, it is the musical equivalent of acknowledging when Republicans brought up the “Death Panel” arguments. If something is that dumb, my theory is to simply ignore it for fear of exposing it to someone who has yet to hear it. In that same sense, why remake a crappy pop song like Britney Spears “Toxic?” I understand that there is heavy doses of irony trying to be imposed here, but I just really don’t see the point. Maybe I am a no fun scrooge, but I just can’t wrap my head around why these covers seem to have the attraction that they do. I actually like Or, The Whale and in theory I think their version of this song is about as good as it possibly could get, but in principle I just guess that “irony covers” will be something I will have to live with not understanding.

I actually think that “Toxic” was a pretty good song – the only Britney Spears song I ever found decent (and I fought kicking and screaming)
