Orchard Thief: On My Back
Here is a track from local experimental band Orchard Thief (whom I erroneously referred to as being from Florida earlier), who has a split coming out soon with another unconventional local group, Glass Buds. Where their Glass Beads partners are more ebullient and unrestrained, Orchard Thief is chilled out to the point of hypnosis. “On My Back” sounds a bit like a beachside Nyquil overdose. The surfy guitars certainly aren’t in a hurry to get anywhere, and the percussion is as simple as they come. Still, with a few synths in there (sounding a bit like a psychedelic flute) it makes for a pretty decent dreampop jam.
