Soulsavers "Longest Day"
No matter who took the reins on the vocals for the new Soulsavers LP, it was going to be a challenge to live up to the high bar set by Mark Lanegan on the electronic projects last two LP’s (particularly the amazing 2007 LP It’s Not How Far You Fall, It’s the Way You Land). The group are giving it a valiant effort with Depeche Mode frontman Dave Gahan as their new vocalist on their forthcoming The Light the Dead See LP, which drops May 22nd on V2 Records. Listen below to the lead single “Longest Day,” which is a even more guitar centric (there is a solo!) and sounds a little like a Pink Floyd song sung (if they were fronted by Dave Gahan). It is an interesting dynamic and Soulsavers are always good for making some soulful musical arrangements, but I can’t say my hopes are high for anything that punches me in the gut like their last two LP’s with The Light and Dead See.
