Wolf Eyes “Choking Flies”
It’s been a while since we’ve heard much from Wolf Eyes. While founding members John Olson and Nate Young have spent time together in Stare Case and their many other prolific projects, the usually prolific Wolf Eyes has been a little quieter. After their mid-90s run of Sub Pop released records and back to self released material, the band has found a new home in Minneapolis’ own DeStijl records. A February posting on the band’s website announced the departure of member Mike Connelly (also of Hair Police) and new 3rd member Jamas Baljo. “Choking Flies” is the opening track from the upcoming No Answer : Lower Floors LP and sounds like a new, refreshed band. An almost clear spoken vocal over an ominous single stocatto drum hit while electronic buzzes and clanks circle. A first listen of the record sounds like a new classic for the biggest name in American noise. The whole album currently streams on Pitchfork.
