WTCHS: “Mr. Hands”
WTCHS are an Ontario based punk/math rock band which I know very little about except that their recent single from a split 7″ (with Thoughts On Air) recently landed in my inbox. And the tune, “Mr. Hands,” is really quite good! It starts out as a bit of a manic sonic assault with a cacophony of drums, bass and guitar and the lead singer’s truly unhinged screams. While the tune never loses any of its crazed energy, it does gradually cohere into sharper focus. The further along you listen, the more it starts to sound less like hardcore punk and more like moody, angular post-punk. Check out the tune below which is available on white vinyl from the band’s own imprint PERDU. While you are at it, check out Thoughts on Air who are also new to me and who also sound really interesting.
