Caribou “Our Love” & “Can’t Do Without Your Love”

Dan Snaith has evolved over the years, using both his Caribou nom de plume other monikers, but he has always maintained a steadfast devotion to crafting songs with impeccable melodies. In the ’10s, he has ventured out from the bedroom and onto the dance floor, and nowhere has his woozy vision been more clear on his new LP Our Love. The title track below features a four-on-the-floor beat and Snaith’s dizzying vocal stylings, creating the kind of chilled but buoyant 2am vibe that he has proven so great at crafting, but it is the other track below, “Can’t Do Without Your Love,” that is the real standout. It combines all of the things Snaith does well, matching a pristine, heart wrenching melody with a caustic but deep-seeded groove. It feels light as a feather, but the wall of sound could weight a ton as it comes crashing through your headphones. For a guy/band that have created some amazing tunes, it easily stands with the best of them. The whole album is great, and is well worth the four plus year wait since the last Caribou LP. Our Love drops Oct. 6.
