Video: Greta Ruth’s “Night Gets Cold”

Over the past weeks we’ve seen a number of local projects inspired by our current shelter-in-place living conditions.  Themes of introspection, isolation, and loneliness are not uncommon. In her recent video for the tune “Night Gets Cold,” local songwriter Greta Ruth takes things a step further by using the medium to depict an actual encounter with herself. 

While the song itself may not be directly inspired by the pandemic, Ruth found that current circumstances have “shed new light” on the lyrics, particularly the idea of what it means not only to face oneself, but to love what one finds there.  With “Night Gets Cold” she “invite(s) the viewer to join [her] on a journey into that strange place, where they might meet their own self in ways they never knew before. May we be gentle and generous with who we find there.”
