Ten Recommendations For Your Caterwaul 2026 Experience This Weekend

Artist: Art Star, Birdhands, Cani Sciorri, Dazzling Killmen, Great Falls, Heet Deth, New Brutalism, Point Line Plane, Rye Coalition, Stress Positions

It’s once again that time of year, except that it’s two weeks later and moved to Zhora Darling. But it is that time of year where I tell you ten things I’d focus my weekend on for this weekend’s Caterwaul Festival. If you haven’t yet heard, it’s a rough year to book concert tours and even more so a whole independent music festival. It’s even rougher year when one of the festival founders is receiving a new heart instead of being out there. So if any of this sounds cool to you follow this link and buy yourself a ticket. There’s not that many small independent festivals like this going on these days and we’re lucky as hell to have it happening right here.

Of course, as the way things sometimes go I find myself out of town for a family event and missing one of the highlights of every summer. Have a good time for me!

Who: Rye Coalition
When: Saturday at 9:00pm
What: Nothing pains me more than missing this one as my most looking forward to seeing. After breaking up in the early 2000s, Rye Coalition has managed to reunite a few times especially around 2014 when their documentary came out. Rye Coalition bent Nation Of Ulysses and Drive Like Jehu style post-hardcore into jagged classic rock anthems over the course

Who: Great Falls
When: Saturday at 7:20PM
What:Members of Kiss It Goodbye, Undertow and Playing Enemy got me here but the Unsane-esque riffing kept me here.

Who: New Brutalism
When: Friday at 9:45pm
What: Aluminum neck jagged noise rock featuring a member of one my favorites of the early 2000s The Red Scare (@Caterwaul can we get them sometime please?!).

Who: Dazzling Killmen
When: Sunday at 8:00PM
What:If you weren’t at Dazzling Killmen’s November show at Cloudland there’s no reason you shouldn’t be here and if you were you already know you should be here. An absolutely deserved victory lap for one of the bands that got us all here.

Who: Art Star
When: Saturday at 10:15pm
What:You’ll want to stay up for this one (especially now since this year’s shows are all in the same place). Jagged yet melodic, Art Star counts both Tom Waits and Leonora Carrington as influences to what they do.

Who: Birdhands
When: Friday at 8:15pm
What: Allen Epley (Shiner, The Life And Times) and Ian Prince (Houston, Kid Dakota, Story Of The Sea) create instrumental jams so good you’ll never notice it’s just two of them.

Who: Cani Sciorri
When: Sunday at 2:40pm
What:Noisey stonery sounds all the way from Italy. Why would you even think about not seeing the band from Italy?

Who: Heet Deth
When: Saturday at 6:35pm
What: A real fun surprise at Caterwaul 2023, Chicago duo Heet Deth ripped through their raucous punk both from stage and from the crowd.

Who: Point Line Plane
When: Sunday at 7:10pm
What: Reunited synth punk duo Point Line Plane got back together for the first time in a lot of years and have been on the road with Dazzling Killmen. Equally catchy and spazzy it’s exciting to have them back in action.

Who: Stress Positions
When: Sunday at 4:05pm
What: Absolutely ripping hardcore from Chicago that is going to shake your hungover ass back to life on Sunday when you most need it.

Caterwaul takes over Zhora Darling from Friday night (6/5) to Sunday night (6/7). That link again is right here.
