I don’t know much about local electronic artists Mutables (aka Eric Rogers) though after hearing him recently on Radio K’s Off The Record I decided to see if I couldn’t seek out his tunes. His bandcamp page isn’t very google-friendly as of yet, but once I found it I found a number of fully fleshed out tunes available. Rogers creates electronic compositions that sound completely laptop-created. There are beats, keys, all manners of instrumentation (including a sitar in one tune) but it all has the kind of tinny electronic veneer that you don’t really get from live instruments. The result is kind of an 16-bit sound that could be the soundtrack to a classic SNES racing game. Check out his organ-driven dance jam “Broken Toy” below and you dig it you can find several more tunes over here.
