Birthday Suits

Birthday Suits was a Minneapolis guitar-and-drums duo - singer/guitarist Hideo Takahashi and drummer Matthew Kazama - making noise together from 2005 to 2019. They excelled at tossing elements of late-'90s mathcore and classic Reagan-era punk against the wall with disarming power. The pair met playing in the noisy quintet Sweet J.A.P. before paring down, releasing albums like Cherry Blue, The Minnesota: Mouth To Mouth, and Spin the Bottle: Adult Party (Recess Records). Their sound mixed unkempt Stooges-style garage rock with the precision of AC/DC. Known for explosive, high-energy live shows, the duo celebrated their 10th anniversary in 2015 before playing their final show in 2019.
