S. Carey is the percussionist for Bon Iver, the indie folk band led by Justin Vernon, whom he joined as part of a touring band in 2008. He released his solo debut album All We Grow in fall 2010 via Jagjaguar, which was recorded partly at home and partly at Justin Vernon's April Base studio. Carey holds a performance degree in classical percussion from Eau Claire.
