Savages

Savages was a rock band formed in London in 2011, made up of Jehnny Beth (vocals), Gemma Thompson (guitar), Ayse Hassan (bass), and Fay Milton (drums). They played their first show in January 2012, opening for British Sea Power, and released their debut album, Silence Yourself, in May 2013 on Beth's label Pop Noire and Matador. Their second album, Adore Life, followed in January 2016, and both albums were nominated for the Mercury Prize. The band played its last show in July 2017 at Eurockéennes de Belfort in France and quietly split up, without ever making an official announcement. In Reviler's 2013 "Three Takes" review of Silence Yourself, Josh wrote that after months with the record, the hype was believable, and he called the album an outstanding post-punk ride from the opening drive of "Shut Up."
