The Budos Band

The Budos Band is an instrumental band from Staten Island, New York, formed in 2005. The band grew out of a jam session hosted by Martín Perna of Antibalas, and their music mixes Ethiopian-inspired Afro-soul with 1960s soul, 1970s jazz and funk, and proto-metal. They've released all their records on Daptone, from their 2005 self-titled debut through The Budos Band V (2019) and Long in the Tooth (2020). Reviler's 2010 review of III noted a gritty, almost menacing edge to their funk.
