Turkish Psych-Funk Band Altin Gün Return With Silky Synth Jam “Ordunun Dereleri” Off Forthcoming LP Yol
We’ve loved Altin Gün’s heady blend of Turkish psychedelic and Anatolian rock (a term we hardly knew before digging into the band and their influences) ever since hearing their 2019 sophomore LP Gece and working backwards to their 2018 debut LP On. Both albums blended the bands reference point with a funky, globetrotting sound that was virtually impossible to not like. We’re excited to hear that COVID hasn’t stopped the group from getting together what will be their third LP in just over three years, with Yol dropping in February 2021.
The first track available from the record is the polished “Ordunun Dereleri,” which incorporates 80s synths, crisp drum machines and technicolor ambiance in a way that really surprised me upon first listen. It took me a couple of spins to shake off the surprise, but I’ve found myself really digging the track and looking forward to hearing a whole album where they’ve brought another generation and genre of influences into their sound. Watch the video above and listen to the track off the song’s 7″ backed by the moody B-Side ballad “Bir of Çeksem” from the group’s bandcamp page.
