Dick Diver “New Name Blues” b/w “Lonely Life”

The great Australian jangle-pop group Dick Diver now have a Minnesota connection, after newish local label fruit & flowers released their latest 7″ earlier this summer. A-side “New Name Blues” is a hazy, slightly political number that is rambles along with a breezy discontent. Highlighting the lackadaisical but highly melodic sound that hearkens back to an ear when Pavement ruled the roost, it is a great follow up to the bands highly underrated 2013 LP Calender Days. The B-side “Lonely Life” is a cover of a band called Coloured Stone, who I’ve never heard of, and is a weepy, slightly off-kilter country-pop ballad that the band do so well.
