Purling Hiss “Don’t Even Try”
Lots of bands these days are writing great pop songs and then deconstructing them, but I think Purling Hiss might take the cake with thenew material on their latest album Public Service Announcement. Indicative of the albums general fuzzed out, lo-fi on steriods pop is the track “Don’t Even Try,” which features a easy on the ears acoustic guitar chord progression and some breezy “woo-ooh” vocal stylings, although each are almost buried underneath gurgling hisses and buzzing noise. It will be interesting to see how the bands scrambled sound plays out live, which we will be able to find out tonight as they open for the already awesome Soft Pack and Kurt Vile show at the Triple Rock Social Club.
