Helado Negro “Dance Ghost”
Helado Negro produces the kind of wobbly, hazy electronic pop music that seems to glide into your conscious on a wave of nostalgia, riding scattered high hats and immaculate synth flourishes towards that spot in your brain that tweaks your memory towards wayward childhood memories. It is a musical template that if done wrong sounds cheesy and inauthentic, but at least on “Dance Ghost,” the first single from their forthcoming Invisible Ghost LP, it doesn’t feel forced or phony. I’m not sure if the trend continues on the rest of the LP, but one can hope. You can catch Helado Negro on tour at the 7th Street Entry on March 7th if you want to see how the songs sound in the flesh, otherwise you can cop the record next month from AK Records.
