CAVE “Shikaakwa”
Chicago four-piece Cave have spent the last half decade wowing listeners with their organ and guitar driven kraut grooves, culminating (so far) in the amazing 2011 LP Neverendless. After stepping away to focus on other projects for most of last year, the group is back with their new album Threace, which will again be released on Drag City. From the first taste of the record, the group recently released the circling organ/guitar groove of “Shikaakwa.” The track proves the band still have an incessant impulse for heady rhythms, but are expanding into an even more colorful, wonked-out territory. Here’s to hoping all of Threace is as hypnotic and engaging as the first track we’ve heard. The record drops Oct. 15, but you can grab it from the band at two locations this weekend if you live in the Twin Cities. The first is at their Treehouse Records In-Store at 3 P.M. on Sunday, which is free. The second is their show Sunday night at the Belmore/New Skyway Lounge. Both are highly recommended. Look for a full review of Threace in the very near future.
