Listen to Royal Headache Live LP + New Album from Lead Singers Shogun’s Side Project Antenna
Royal Headache, the dearly departed jangly Aussie punk band, hold a special place in my heart despite breaking up in 2018. Their two studio LPs are some of my most played albums of the last decade, and their first show here in the early 2010s to play in the small area near the bar at the Triple Rock Social Club is still one of my favorite shows I’ve ever attended.
I also was wrapped in enough that I made a trip to San Francisco on what seemed like might their last tour, something that proved true and in hindsight was worth every penny. I still hope they’ll reform and play sold out arena tours (that’s how this all works, right?), but in the meantime we’ve got a small hit to hold us over in their new Live in America LP. One side of the LP contains songs from their 2012 tour and the other side from their 2015 tour, bringing together the band’s greatest hits, as they were, from the band’s scorching live show. They were amazing in the studio and even better live, and this record goes a long way of capturing the lightening in the bottle that was Royal Headache. You can stream and purchase the LP below.
Additionally, the band’s lead singer Shogun, who has released a few standalone songs over the years, recently released a new self titled EP from his band Antenna, which is also streamable and purchasable below. It’s five tracks of hair on fire garage punk that will scratch your deepest Royal Headache itch, with his unmistakable vocals cutting through the razor wire guitars and locomotive rhythm section. It’s the kind of music made for sweaty clubs where the only thing stopping you from pogo dancing is your shoes sticking to the floor. These songs capture some more grown up themes and are required listening for fans of Royal Headache. No news on Antenna heading across the ocean for shoes, but our fingers are crossed.
In short: Royal Headache is Dead, Long Live Royal Headache.
