Unseen Michael Yonkers Live Footage Surfaces via Midwestern Social Research
Artist: Michael Yonkers
We lost local legend Michael Yonkers about a month ago. A Minneapolis psych-noise pioneer whose recordings from the late 60s and early 70s were so far ahead of their time they went largely unheard for decades, Yonkers was a true original. Through the rediscovery of his lost albums, a return to solo work, and his collaboration with the Blind Shake, he had a career renaissance in the 2000s and 2010s. If you’re unfamiliar check our archives for lots of content from the 2010s.
Midwestern Social Research has been dropping rare and unseen video from the 2000s and is full of local treasures like Mute Era, Clipd Beaks, Skoal Kodiak and a ton more. In honor of Yonkers, they’ll be dropping previously unreleased footage from his 2005 Heliotrope Festival show at Franklin Art Works all throughout the summer. The first video dropped yesterday.
Keep a watch out here, we’ll be collaborating with MSR on a few posts honoring a one-of-a-kind local legend and the influence he’s had on our scene.
