Review: Prins Thomas epic 4xLP ambient LP Principe Del Norte
Prin Thomas new gigantic, 4xLP monster Principe Del Norte has been consistently described as “ambient,” but it is important to distinguish right off the bat that it is more Select Ambient Works than Music for Airports. The nine songs, each a letter taking up a whole side of the LP save for “A” and “A2,” comprise their own universe, all hovering near or above ten minutes. They are each bubbly, atmospheric electronic jams that are as deep as they are wide. At times it is lush waves of arpeggiated synths, and other times quite, hypnotic drones, but the whole record is a master-course in creating layers of sound that wrap you in. It is a long and confounding journey, but one well worth your time.
You can sample a few of the tracks below, and if you are up for the task, grab the whole LP and go for the ride.
