Listen To “Battle Weary,” The Title Track Off Forthcoming LP from The Muatas
I was excited to see local electronic duo The Muatas return with the first single and title track off their forthcoming Battle Weary LP, and at least off the bat they continue the first-class trip hop from their great 2020 LP.
“Battle Weary,” which dropped Nov. 3rd, is just what the song title describes. It’s an ode to feeling the weight of the world, and is a timely soundtrack for these long, chilly nights in an uncertain, troubling times.
It’s nearly five minutes of lo-fi, skittish trip-hop, with lush synths and skeletal drums creating a minimalist-but-powerful tapestry for Ayanna’s powerful, world-weary vocals. When she sings “I’m kind of tired / of seeing all my heart’s desires / just coming to a crashing halt / and it’s really no ones fault,” you can feel the heaviness. No details on when the full album comes out, but we’re excited to hear more.
