Julia Holter “In the Same Room” “Marienbad” + FACT Mix
Julia Holter makes the kind of abstract, disjointed noisy pop music that I find so compelling. Clearly talented and possessing a voice that could be employed in any number of ways, Holter uses her bird like falsato to mesh with her sonic tapestry that she creates, making a product that is both minimalistic and gigantic. Seemingly able to be both commanding and vulnerable, songs like “In the Same Room” and the almost Joanna Newsom-esqe “Marienbad” are example of an artist compelled to create something original and off the beaten path, but so talented that you can’t help but be wrapped into the dizzying mess created. Her new LP Ekstasis will be released by the amazing RVNG Intl. on March 8th and is an album that surely will be one of the best from the early portions of this young year. If you are interested in hearing where she gets her inspiration from, download her weirdly enchanting FACT mix HERE.

[…] hmm, popular font these days ^ This new Polica album is pretty great. They're a local crew who seems destined to get some serious national attention soon. Sort of an 80's feel, synth and bass set up an R&B meets dubstep backdrop w/ 2 drummers propelling it and female vocals that is heavily auto-tuned in a way that somehow really works. The new Julia Holter – Ekstasis, is really nice too. Dreamy and artsy but lots of satisfying pop too…like Kate Bush or Cocteau Twins can pull off. vinyl sounds lush too…sample –> Julia Holter […]
