Jim And The French Vanilla: “The Big Day”
Jim and the French Vanilla is the solo project of Blind Shake guitarist Jim Blaha. And generally, his solo work doesn’t sound a whole lot like the stomping garage punk of his band. The one exception to the rule seems to the “The Big Day,” which will be featured on Blaha’s forthcoming record II. Whereas most of II showcases Blaha’s slower, moodier acid folk/rock leanings, “The Big Day” probably wouldn’t sound out of place on a Blind Shake album. It’s got the group’s characteristic electric guitar lead, and punches nearly as hard as their tunes, though the absence of a strong drum part is probably what sets it apart the most. Check it out below and look for this, as well as the rest of II to be played this Thursday at the Kitty Cat Klub for Jim and the French Vanilla’s album release show.
