Zuluzuluu change their name to astralblak, release new song, play Super Bowl party
We’ve been big fans of Zuluzuluu from the start, enjoying their futurist funk and soul over multiple releases and seeing them play some of the most fun shows over the last five years around Minneapolis. Now the band is changing their name to astralblak, with the band sending the note below about the reason for their change.
The main reason for the name change was a matter of authenticity and accountability. Being that none of us is directly related to the actual Zulu tribe of South Africa, we collectively decided that changing the name would be the most respectful course of action. astralblak is universal as in connecting with the universe, it is all encompassing in its narrative of blackness and highlights the diversity in all of our individual experiences as artists and members of the unified diaspora.-
To celebrate the new name, the band have released the new song “Due,” which you can hear below. They also are joining the Super Bowl festivities with a show on Nicollet mall at 4pm. We’re excited for the next phase of one of the most exciting bands in Minnesota. Viva astralblak!
